Mercedes MacCambridge has a one woman show here, doing what she does best. She’s the Classic Earth Mother, tending to her plant children. This performance came right before her voice characterization of the Devil in “the Exorcist.” I had the opportunity to hear her speak at a local college in the early Eighties. Most of the students there knew her only from the Exorcist. I stood up from the back row, during a question and answer period, to let know that I had been a fan since her days on “Inner Sanctum” and “I Love A Mystery.” I received a warm blown kiss from the stage, and later an autograph. She was truly the First Lady of Dramatic Radio.
I had no idea she was the voice in The Exorcist, even after many CBSRMT shows featuring her.
