Our episode this week features a story from the CBS Radio Mystery Theater titled, The Eavesdroppers. This one first aired August 27, 1975.
With the recent passing of Ray Bradbury, a man whose stories were no stranger to radio, I thought we’d hear a selection from the adaptations done by X Minus One. This series featured eight of his stories over its run, more than any other author.
We begin with Mars Is Heaven, which first aired May 8, 1955. Then, from August 4, 1955 we’ll hear The Veldt. The last episode aired December 5, 1956 and features two stories; There Will Come Soft Rains and Zero Hour.
By request, we’ll hear a Venus themed show today in honor of the transit of Venus taking place June 5. The episode is titled The Merchants Of Venus, and first aired on X Minus One July 18, 1957.
You can read up more about this at transitofvenus.org. Thanks Kurtis, for your request!
For twenty years Suspense produced a wide range of radio drama, sometimes touching on science fiction like the episode we’ll hear today. Here’s The Invisible Ape, which first aired June 8, 1958.
X Minus One aired over NBC for almost three years, and produced 127 episodes for the network. From that series we’ll hear Point Of Departure, which originally aired October 17, 1957.
